It was cold out there. Wind gusts were quite strong and the sideways snow stung. I had just received my jacket a few days before this run so I was hoping it was all it was cracked up to be. And it was. The pockets for my hands and the adjustable hood was a lifesaver. I was warm and dry the entire time (about 2 hrs). So happy to have it. Megan on Feb 26th 2018
Nice jacket but unless you're a stick figure it may not work. I take a medium in most clothes, I ordered a large in this and though it "fits" it's not something I'd wear out. The top was ok but the hips were too tight. So sadly it went back. Linda on Jan 21st 2017
Like most ultralight shells, this one is only waterproof for a short while before you'll get wet from your own condensation. However, it keeps you warm and blocks wind. As long as you're moving it's great. I like the foldover hands at the end of the sleeves that keep your fingers warm. Unknown on Jan 4th 2017
When I bought this jacket, I was looking for an extremely lightweight but watertight rain jacket for the Tarheel Ultra--eight days of possibly wet and windy weather. Right out of the package, with tags removed, the (size small) jacket impressed me by weighing in at 3.8 ounces. It also stuffed very easily into its own chest pocket, making a nice neat little package to drop into the pocket of my hydration pack. (Did I mention that it weighs practically nothing?) During Tarheel, I wore it every single day. It kept me dry during one long day of steady downpour. Other days, it made a wonderful windbreaker. I didn't have a chance to see how well it breathed when I was really sweating, but in cool temperatures with 100% humidity outside, I was bone dry underneath the jacket. Initially, I was skeptical of the little hand mitts. But after one chilly morning, I was hooked!
This is now my "always take it" jacket. It's so small and light that there's never any excuse to leave it at home!

One great light weight and waterproof shell. Design of the hood and hand mitts exceptional. Runs small if you need more layering (sweater) but worked well for me in our 18 day streak of rain in Maryland in mild temps. Any chance pants are being considered? Beth on Jun 8th 2016
I wish I'd know before I bought that this jacket runs small. I bought a medium thinking large would be way too big but not the case I wish I'd bought a large. I wear a 6 usually but to wear something under I'll have to only wear a very thin shirt. Also I do think it's slightly overpriced for what it is but there is nothing like it really out there and it has very nice features which is why it is a must have for rainy areas like OR where I'm from! i recently used this jacket for a R2R2R run in the Grand Canyon. The weather was all over the map; showers, snow, sun. This jacket was perfect... kept me warm (which was my main concern)... loved the hood and hand mitten options. Nice and lightweight as well, so easy to carry when not in use. This jacket fits perfectly with the protection you need from the wind, rain, and even the cold. It breathes too! It's fold up aspect is ideal for serious hikers or ultra runners out on the trail. Don't waste your money on buying several different jackets, just buy this one! Michele Yates on Apr 15th 2016
This thing is golden. I've used it as an outside running layer in winter, as my go-to 14-er layer in the high country, and even as my climbing/light-belay outer layer. It's extremely versatile, ventilated, and efficient. It even saved my a** (bum) a few times when unexpected storms rolled in early up on the peaks. I take it everywhere I go -- very lightweight and compressible. Easy to stow. Can't say enough good things about this lightweight jacket!! Britt on Sep 22nd 2015
LOVE it!! This jacket fits amazingly well, and it performs better than any of the others that I own. The flip mitts were incredibly convenient when I was running down a mountain the other day in freezing rain. They kept my hands nice and warm, and the rest of the jackets kept me totally dry. The hood fit well too. It cinches around your face to keep your head out of the elements, but it still allows you to have full range of motion and visibility in any direction. And the jackets packs down super small, so you can store it in any extra nook or cranny in your pack. Awesome work, UD!! Molly on Sep 11th 2015
Your adventure gear kit isn't complete without the Ultra Jacket. Seriously. This little beauty packs into its own pocket so it is super convenient for stowing in small spaces. The taped seams make the Ultra waterproof in case you get hit with any high mountain rain/snow storms. The sleeves come complete with foldable cuffs...a very nice bonus when you forget gloves and your hands get cold. Finally, the hood includes a sweet little brim which aids in protection from weather, and will provide shade from the sun. Runs true to size. Gina on Sep 9th 2015
