I had a chance to try this out on a fast packing trip in the Wind Rivers. The weight and performance were awesome. A thunderstorm hit and it kept me dry (and not too sweaty), and I actually found myself wearing it most of the days to keep me protected from the insane amounts of mosquitos. This jacket will be a go-to staple in my pack.
I am so glad I bought this! The Ultra jacket is the most useful thing ever since it is so easily packable. I appreciate the venting and thoughtful details such as the mitts. The fit is perfect, loose enough to layer without being too baggy. Also, the arm length is just for me (I am 5'3" and wear the small).
I may be obsessed with this jacket :) This piece has saved me on more than one occasion in some seriously lousy weather. I never leave for the trails with out this piece packed in the back of my Race Vesta. Have been using this 5-6 days a week for a year. We live up high in a small CO mountain town. The wind is insane some days. This piece over a base layer even on a 10 degree winter day, keeps me comfortable. My hands are always cold in the start of a run, this allows me to not need gloves as it has hand covers built in. Can't say enough about this jacket. Thanks UD!
If you need a packable jacket for all weather conditions, this is it. Packs down SO small, and has held up through all weather conditions. Super easy to stash in one of the vests for the "just in case" times. My one wish is that it had pockets up front, but I understand that creates more bulk.
