I recently purchased these pants for backpacking and have only had one chance to use them but made the following observations:
Their weight is incredible, not even noticeable in the pack. The pants fold so small they almost disappear. I only had the opportunity to use them as a wind barrier pant only, so I can't give testimonial to their ability to shed water. As a wind barrier, in around 30 degree temperatures, with a SmartWool under layer, they worked amazingly. I generally run a little warm though.
The one thing that would raise up the rating for me, is if a lightweight zipper could be installed from the hem to the calf to allow the pants to be put on or taken off with greater ease. However, that may just be me being lazy.
The quality of the pant seems outstanding and i am sure they will work for their intended use.
