Innovative fabrics and design come together to provide the ultimate in lightweight comfort. Weighing only 7 ounces, the AK Race Vest 2.0 won't hold you back and gives you liters of storage.

Version 2.0 increases durability by switching to Silnylon from Cuben Fiber, using a stronger 340gm Power Mesh, adding edge banding to the upper strap pockets, and making the bungee cord stronger. This is a great vest. I am 6'2" and 190 lbs, and it fit right immediately with very little adjustment. It bounces and moves very little at all. I used a camelback in the back, and a single bottle (electrolytes) in one front pocket with a camera and ended up being cell phone in the other pocket. Cell phone started in a higher pocket, but that put it right on my collarbone, and after a couple of miles it was something I figured I could do without. Was nice having a P&S camera right up front and handy for taking shots on the trail. Also nice to have the water bottle handy for dogs that laid chase - was able to get the bottle out of the pocket very fast, and it goes in and out easily, but stays in place. A squirt in the face has stopped every dog so far. That won't last forever of course, but for now it worked well. Took me a little to figure out best route for the hose, which ended up being across in front of you and through the loop for the hose. It takes a second or two longer to get it off this way, but it works the best as far as hose location.

Super product! I bought an AK vest two years ago and have worn it in at least 10 races... I love it. It is light weight, durable, configurable and holds everything I need for 3-6 hours at a time.

Overall, great vest. I've used this for about 200 miles thus far, to include one 50 miler and have no major complaints. I understand this is meant to be a minimalist vest, and it lives up to it's name in that regard, but a slightly larger pocked somewhere on the front for a smartphone would be nice. I run alone a lot, like to have my phone on me and accessible when running. The iPhone 5 doesn't fit in the two lower pockets and if I put it in the upper pockets, it doesn't sit comfortably on my collarbone, resulting in a bit of a bruise. My solution was to order a UD cell phone pocket and attaching it to the side straps. That's a pretty minor complaint which I understand kind of runs counter to the concept of this vest. Overall, I love this thing.

This is an ideal product for mountain biking. The load is hanging forward so my shoulder blades are not annoyed from the load bouncing backward after hours on nasty surfaces. The benefit of having the front pouches is amazing. I have everything easily accessible and unlike front pockets in a jacket, the cargo does not smack against my knees and thighs when I am moving fast. The harness perfectly distributes the load and holds it in place so there is no shifting. Thank you to all the runners who designed a wonderful piece equipment, and please forgive me for mis-using it!

Very nice pack, not perfect (whats perfect one wont be perfect for another) but this is about as close as one can get. Would like slighty larger pockets, but more then enough room for a 50k self supported, with out touching back storage. Should be noted there is no way to get a modern smart phone any front of vest, with out taking one water bottle out of the picture. Vest is very comfortable, found it seemed to get better the more I ran with it. Would highly recommend this vest.

Light, versatily! Very fun for trainning, hiking and running!!! I liked veru much, but there's always room for improvement.... Don't know why it's not there, but the small pockets on the side os the bottle holders, so usefull in the PB vest could be present!! Light weight, close to the hands and necessary, I think... Theres a lack os pockets and pouches and this feature woudn't hurt the minimalist idea! The plastic buckles under the arm annoy me!! They could be placed somewhere else or differently... Other then that, very handy!

The AK race vest lives up to all of the features it advertises. While it's storage capacity is abundant; you can hardly tell you have it on. Even when it's full, the weight distribution is such that you don't end up with back and shoulder aches. If you have the correct size the pack fits like a glove and is very comfortable to run with. The one drawback I experienced was that the back pockets were hard to reach and open while running. However, with the massive amounts of storage space, there is more than enough room for everything you need up front.

I'm petite and this vest allows for a wider range of sizes than the Scott Jurek vests, so it fits me better and more snugly. The back sleeve fits a small Camelbak bladder (since that's my bladder of choice). The front bottle holders accommodate both the accompanying Ultimate Direction bottles as well as the Camelbak podium chill insulated water bottle (which is my bottle of choice). It does NOT have the little gel sleeves around the bottle holders that the SJ vest does, and that's kind of a bummer. This vest also doesn't have a separate, waterproof salt/electrolyte pocket like the SJ vest. But all in all- this is a great, low profile vest to get me through my trail runs.

This vest is like a second skin and an essential part of my kit. I've use it all the time from hiking Denali National Park to 100 mile races. I've never had any chaffing or irritation. It provides a lot of options for the ideal hydration/access as I've used it with the two bottles, a 70 ounce bladder with pockets for gels, or a single bottle and a pocket for my phone/camera. I also have managed to pack quite a bit of gear into/on the pack and have been surprised by the packs ability to stretch. I only have two complaints. First, the bungie cord sometimes feels a bit unruly and I feel like I always have way more slack than I need. Second, I would like to see the return of some sort of secured/zippered pocket to the back (like in version 1.0) for things like keys or my wallet that I might need easy access to or not lose when rummaging for something in the main pouch mid-run. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic pack for almost any length of race or run.

Awesome fit and feel! I am a minimalist and was hesitant to try a vest. The AK Race Vest fits snugly but comfortably and is extremely lightweight. Great accessory for ultras! Well done, Anton and UD!

I bought this vest for longer runs where I wanted more than 25oz of water that I could carry in one hand. Holding 2 bottles didn’t sound appealing so I went with the UD AK Vest. After a few runs with the pack both with a shirt and without a shirt, here are my pros and cons: Pros: -Very lightweight -2 bottles (25oz cambelback) and a bladder = 120oz capacity -No chaffing other than a little around the collar most likely due to weight of water -Great both with and without a shirt so as not to overheat Cons: -Bottles are terrible. Opening and closing are a pain while continuing to run and drink.

I've paired this vest with the 70oz UD bladder so I can use the front pockets for gels and other nutrition items. Surprised to find that the fit of the vest, even with a nearly full bladder, is still good and it doesn't affect breathing. It does pull back due to the weight of the water in the bladder, but it's very tolerable. There is still enough room to stuff a light jacket and shirt in the back pouch with the bladder. I use only one of the chest straps, and I fiddle with the side adjustments when fluctuating from climbs to descents, which is a nice update. No issues with chaffing.

Love it but it chafes your neck and the Velcro for the GU pockets is tearing away from the harness after less than 2 months. Be for warned the harness moves alot when you run. This is do to the bottles bouncing up and down. You can tighten the straps to reduce this but only so far until it becomes restrictive. Just something you need to get used. I would recommend it as long you understand what you are getting. No way you can get a cellphone in the harness pockets unless you take out a bottle. I will returning mine for a replacement do to the velcro .

Great pack for multihour training runs, and ultra distance races. Once adjusted, the fit is perfect and does not bounce at all or chafe. Provides plenty of storage to carry two bottles, and several gels/bars in the front pockets. The rear pocket is sufficient for carrying several pieces of clothing, and easily fits a long sleeve shirt, rain jacket, gloves and a hat.

I would like to preface that I have never taken a dollar, not a dime, from any sponsor. So I will not accept the free shipping offer. I've been trail running for 30 years and have tried every way humans have invented for carrying liquid. I already have the AK race vest 1.0 and left it out West and was forced to buy another. The biggest change in 2.0 is the bigger net in the back and the removal of the lower pockets that only an advanced yogi could get to. I run hot and want as little on me as possible. I used holsters for years but they eventually gave me all kind of hip problems so I have to have something riding on top. This vest is by far the coolest and lightest weight of all packs. Basically it is a bra with the cups on the outside. I have done r2r2r Grand Canyon and many lesser endeavors. I use race ready shorts for most of my food so the AK2 with the bottles in front are genius and I can add a bladder in back for an entire day of running if needed. My highest recommendation. There are some negatives: The smart phone pocket is an iphone pocket my Samsung does not fit., although my waterproof camera does. The bottles are close to your ears and when 3/4 full the splash can be a little distracting. Not to sound like an old guy but bring back the hard nipple tops! I worry what colony of microorganisms are in there. Finally, I am a guy. It seems this may be a tough fit for a woman as the bottles and breasts would be competing for the same space. I'll let others weigh in on this. Great vest! Joe

Found this vest to fit quite nicely, snug but was still able to breath. I didn't need to keep micro adjusting either once I started running. It took a little to get used to the front water bottle holders but I used the UD Body Bottles as they were much more flexible.

This race vest rocks! Did a 20 mile training run using it and it was great. Plenty of storage for gels and normal gear. I don't care for the water bottles and replaced them with Camelbak Podium Chills.

Best water carrying vest I have ever used. I am 6'5", 220 and it fits me well. I run 50k's and 100k's with it and it is revolutionary as a game changer for my endurance running!

Great vest for the ultra runner. I am 5'-10", 155lbs, 38R sport coat, 31" waisted pants, wear a medium torso in most hiking packs, and am a fairly lean athletic build. I went with the s/m size, and I have plenty of room to adjust either way. Great fit with super minimal bounce loaded down. I use the regular bottles and the body bottles. The rear storage will collect moisture from you or the environment so put your stuff in a gallon ziploc or grocery bag if necessary. You can put a ton of gear in the rear compartment! This will be my go to for trail marathons, stage races, and 50k's. I'll dig the SJ vest out for longer training runs, cold weather training when multiple layers might be donned and doffed, and the ever looming 100 miler. The reasons I didn't go 5 stars are design issues only: Having the pockets under the bottles open medially to the body instead of away. Same with the side straps. Have them tighten by pulling from back to front instead of trying to tighten while pulling behind you. I would love to have the side bottle pockets as on the SJ vest with this vest. All in all, this vest will do you awesome on the trail and road. It looks to be a great hot and humid weather piece of gear too. Breathes incredibly well.

I Love the pack. The power mesh is tough and stretchy. My only complaint is the full water bottles dig into my ribs. This makes them tender after a few hours of running. I am able to adjust the vest quite a bit to minimize the amount of rib digging the bottles due. I even used a bladder with it which then allows me to utilize the front water bottle mesh pockets for bars, gels etc. I'm ordering a UD's body bottle to see if that eliminates rib soreness. I think though that my perfect combo is going to be a bladder and a body bottle. I felt like I complained a lot BUT it is so light and strong and it allows a variety of different ways to put my fluids in the pack. I am satisfied

I've always been more of a "handheld bottles"' kind of guy. Especially when I race (in particular in 50 or 100 mile events), it's really important for me to be able to alternate between drink mix and water, so hydration packs were always a bit problematic for me. Then the AK Race Vest came along and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! for races and runs up to about 50K, I still prefer the handhelds (especially the Fastdraw 20 and Handy 20). After about 4 hours though, my shoulders and neck really start to hurt so being able to throw on a pack and still have two bottles has been a HUGE game-changer for me. The pocket in the back has plenty of room to throw a lightweight jacket and extra gels or gloves and the bungee cord keeps it all nicely in place. I use one of the front pockets for my salt caps and the other is the perfect size for my ipod shuffle.

Took my AK 2.0 for a 20 mile test run this afternoon and it performed as advertised. Plenty of room for extra clothes in the back compartment, and gel and a camera in the shoulder pouches. There was minimal bounce compared to other packs I have tried. I would have given it 5 stars if the water bottles didn't dig into my rib cage a little. This will definitely be my pack for training and longer ultra distance races this season!
